A milestone year...

filled with so much music...

Greetings fellow earthlings! I'm terribly excited for this new year (as you may tell). I am embarking on a year filled with much much more singing and music making.
This new year, in 6 months time, I will be turning 30 years old. I actually can't believe it when I see it. 30. 30? I'll tell you what, I'm feeling it.
So what goes better with a milestone birthday than some milestone, obligatory resolutions?!
Aside from adding exercise to my daily regimen, as I vow to do every year (ha ha.), I vow to sing, so much more than I ever have before. I've spent a lot of time in the past, scattering my interests from playing the guitar, to piano, to arranging, to engineering, and to writing. Now, this year, I'm getting back to basics, to thing that I have been doing the longest, have been trained the most in, and love to do the most.
I have been compiling my song book and have been working with some fabulous musicians to tailor a new act - a duo. I've been rifling through the Great American Songbook, pulling tunes from yesteryear, appropriating new and classic pop tunes, and arranging new spins on familiar hits.
I realized that once you release original music into the world, people are led to believe that you are a prolific songwriter. Well, as it turns out, that isn't the case for me. If the writing is at a stand-still then there is no reason why I should be! There are so many great songs out there with endless room for interpretation.
I'll be setting the guitar down, stepping away from the piano, and letting Sangster take a rest for a bit. Just me (AHH) and a microphone...and an accompanist (TBA), of course! (that's the "duo" part).
I plan on playing around town, from restaurants to coffee shops & jazz clubs to basement bars.
Of course, you'll be the first to know.

Until then, we have a few more hours left of 2k14 and I'll be perfecting the couch potato. BUT In the meantime, my other half, Nick Mancini, and I have put together a thank you track for all of our supporters out there.
It's been a good year, maybe not a prolific one but, a good one that deserves merit. Thanks for being a part of it and we hope you enjoy!

This was all quickly recorded on a new (to me) vintage mic that was gifted to me by my father, for Christmas. It's an Astatic77 from the 1950's and her got it working! (So, it's a little thank you to him as well.)

Also, I have set up a new Facebook page wherein I'll be announcing upcoming shows and sharing photos. It's under my name, "Afton Hefley", as "Sangster" is my songwriting name. Take a minute, if you will, to "like" the page and you will then receive all of the updates there.

I hope everyone has had a fantastic holiday season and I look forward to seeing you all in the new year. Until then...
